Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan Vow to Deepen Strategic Partnership

ISLAMABAD:- Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of the Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov Nurgozhoevich held delegation-level talks today at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad to advance the longstanding partnership between the two brotherly nations.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff, federal ministers, and senior government officials.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to deepening ties with Kyrgyzstan, noting that relations with Central Asia occupy a central place in Pakistan’s Vision Central Asia policy. President Zhaparov emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s desire to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with Pakistan in all areas of shared interest.

Both leaders reviewed the excellent foundations of friendship rooted in history, cultural affinity, and shared aspirations for peace and development. They agreed to further expand cooperation in trade, energy, regional connectivity, and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides expressed determination to boost bilateral commerce and investment, setting a target of US$200 million in bilateral trade by 2027–28, through practical and time-bound implementation of existing agreements and understandings. They welcomed the positive outcomes of the 5th Meeting of the Kyrgyz-Pakistan Joint Intergovernmental Commission, held in Islamabad on 28–29 July 2025.

Recognizing the importance of regional energy linkages, both leaders underscored the need for early and effective implementation of the CASA-1000 energy project, which they described as a key pillar for regional economic integration.

The leaders also stressed the importance of secure, efficient, and diversified connectivity routes between the two countries. In this context, they expressed satisfaction over the operationalization of the road corridor under the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA), which is expected to further facilitate regional trade.

During the talks, both sides exchanged views on major regional and international developments. They agreed that peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and the UN Charter is essential for ensuring global peace and stability.

Both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Zhaparov reiterated their commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan and called for fulfillment of international obligations by the Afghan authorities, particularly with regard to countering terrorism and addressing Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns.

On the situation in Gaza, the two countries reaffirmed their principled support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Following the talks, both leaders witnessed the signing and exchange of 15 Memoranda of Understanding and agreements covering cooperation in energy, mining, trade, education, justice, agriculture, culture, and tourism.

Earlier upon arrival, President Zhaparov was presented with a guard of honour by a contingent of Pakistan’s armed forces. The Prime Minister also hosted a luncheon in honour of the visiting President and his delegation. Later, both leaders addressed a joint press briefing.
