Bishkek Ranks Among World’s Top Five Most Polluted Cities

Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, has once again been listed among the world’s five most polluted major cities, according to international air quality monitoring data based on the current Air Quality Index (AQI).
In the latest ranking, Bishkek placed fourth with an AQI reading of 236, a level classified as “very unhealthy.” Such figures signal a severe decline in air quality and pose heightened risks to public health, The Caspian Post reported, citing Kyrgyz media.
Cairo, Egypt, topped the list with an AQI of 369, followed by Delhi, India, at 256. Lahore, Pakistan, ranked third with 254, while Bishkek followed closely at 236. Dhaka, Bangladesh, completed the top five with an AQI of 213.
Health experts caution that exposure to air pollution at these levels is particularly dangerous for children, the elderly, and individuals with chronic respiratory or cardiovascular diseases. Long-term exposure can aggravate existing conditions and increase the likelihood of developing new health problems.
Residents have been advised to minimize time spent outdoors, avoid physical exertion in open areas, and use protective masks to reduce exposure to harmful pollutants.
