Cultural Event in Islamabad Celebrates Pakistan-Uzbekistan Historical Ties
ISLAMABAD — The Embassy of Uzbekistan, organized a special cultural event titled “Uzbekistan-Pakistan: Melodies of Friendship and Brotherhood” to commemorate Uzbekistan’s 35th Independence Anniversary at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The event brought together foreign diplomats, government officials, and cultural figures.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Aurangzeb Khan Khichi highlighted the historical, cultural, and spiritual ties connecting the two nations. Khichi called for expanded bilateral cooperation across heritage preservation, museums, literature, performing arts, and traditional crafts, with a focus on creating joint opportunities for young artists and writers.
In his address, Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev pointed to historical trade and cultural routes such as the Silk Road as the foundation for modern relations. Tukhtaev outlined several ongoing bilateral projects, including sister-city agreements pairing Samarkand with Islamabad and Termez with Peshawar, the Babur Park project, and the naming of Tashkent Street in the Pakistani capital. He also announced that preparations are underway for the upcoming “Days of Culture of Uzbekistan in Pakistan” later this year, which will bring an Uzbek cultural delegation to showcase the country’s historical heritage and contemporary arts.
Highlighting regional connectivity, Ambassador Tukhtaev noted that direct flights between Tashkent and Karachi would commence on September 3, adding to the six weekly flights currently operating between Tashkent, Lahore, and Islamabad. He stated that increased air links would support tourism, business, and educational exchanges between the two countries. The event concluded with traditional music and dance performances by visiting Uzbek artists, demonstrating the region’s artistic heritage and the cultural links between both societies.
