Molten Slag Blast Kills Worker at Kazakh Phosphorus Plant

A worker has died in Taraz, Kazakhstan, after suffering severe burns in an industrial accident at the Novodzhambul Phosphorus Plant.

The incident occurred when molten phosphorus slag burst from a furnace inside one of the workshops, trapping three employees beneath the scalding material, according to Kazakh media cited by The Caspian Post. All three sustained serious burns to their bodies and respiratory tracts.

The most critically injured, a 32-year-old worker who had burns covering 45 percent of his body, fought for his life for three days before succumbing to his injuries. The other two victims remain hospitalized under medical supervision.

Authorities have formed a special commission to investigate the cause of the accident and possible safety violations. Emergency inspections are underway at the facility, and police have launched a criminal case.
