Tajikistan Embassy in Pakistan Marks 29th National Unity Day

Islamabad: The Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan in Pakistan hosted a solemn ceremony on 27 June 2026 to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the National Unity Day of Tajikistan. The event was attended by members of the Tajik community residing in Pakistan.

Addressing the gathering, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Yusuf Sharifzoda, congratulated the participants on the important national occasion and highlighted the historical significance of National Unity Day. He said the signing of the General Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and National Accord on 27 June 1997 marked a decisive turning point in the history of modern Tajikistan.

The Ambassador noted that the agreement laid the foundation for peace, stability, national reconciliation, stronger state institutions and sustainable development in the country. He paid special tribute to the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation and President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, for his historic role in restoring peace and consolidating national unity after the civil war.

Sharifzoda said that Tajikistan’s progress was made possible through wise leadership, strong political will and consistent efforts to guide the country toward stability and development. He described national unity as one of the greatest achievements of Tajikistan’s independence and stressed that preserving it remains a sacred duty of every citizen.

The Ambassador also called on Tajik compatriots living abroad to promote the positive image of Tajikistan through patriotism, respect for national values and commitment to safeguarding the reputation of their homeland.

During his address, he also highlighted the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the resolution titled “International Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations 2027–2036,” initiated by Tajikistan. He said the initiative reflects global recognition of Tajikistan as a peace-loving nation and an active supporter of international peace efforts.

The event also featured a documentary film on Tajikistan’s peacebuilding journey, the achievements of national unity and the role of President Emomali Rahmon in strengthening peace and stability. The documentary was warmly received by participants and highlighted the importance of preserving peace for the country’s continued progress.

The cultural segment of the ceremony was held in a friendly atmosphere, where participants exchanged views on Tajikistan’s achievements during the years of independence and the value of national unity.

On the occasion, the Embassy also hosted guests with a traditional Tajik dastarkhan. The ceremony concluded in a cordial atmosphere marked by patriotism, unity and pride in the homeland.
