Kazakh Senate to Review Agreements with France, Mongolia

Members of Kazakhstan’s Senate are scheduled to meet on January 22 at 10:00 a.m. (GMT+5) to consider a series of key legislative and international cooperation issues.

One of the main agenda items is the ratification of the Readmission Agreement between Kazakhstan and France, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media. The agreement sets out a legal framework for bilateral cooperation on the return of individuals who violate migration and residency regulations in either country.

Under the document, individuals will be returned to their country of nationality in cases such as illegal residence or the loss of identity documents. In particular, Kazakh citizens in France who lose their documents or are found to be residing illegally will be able to return home without sanctions, with support from the French Ministry of the Interior in completing the required procedures.

The agreement was signed in Paris on November 5, 2024, and has already received approval from the lower house of parliament, the Mazhilis.

Senators are also expected to examine an agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Mongolia on cooperation in pension provision. In addition, the session will include the election of Senate representatives to a joint commission of both parliamentary chambers tasked with reviewing the draft constitutional law on granting special status to Alatau.

Alatau received special status by presidential decree last September. The city is planned as a fully digital urban hub for the region, intended to serve as a model for smart city development in Kazakhstan.
