Kyrgyz Cinema Shines at Dhaka Festival with Major Wins

Films by Kyrgyz directors captured top awards at the 24th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, marking a strong showing for the country’s cinema.
In the Asian Competition category, Kurak, directed by Erke Dzhumakmatova and Emil Atageldiev, won Best Film, while Ot by Dastan Madalbekov and Aizada Bekbalaeva received the award for Best Screenplay, The Caspian Post reported, citing Kyrgyz media.
Kyrgyz filmmakers also excelled in the Women Directors section, where The Seventh Month by Aizada Amangeldy earned the Best Directing award. In addition, Bekbalaeva’s project Husband secured second place at the “West Meets East” screenplay laboratory.
Founded in 1992, the Dhaka International Film Festival is Bangladesh’s largest annual film event, attracting filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts from around the world. The festival features a wide range of screenings, along with master classes and discussions led by prominent directors and actors.
