All Facebook Videos to Become Reels, Says Meta

ISLAMABAD: In a major update to its video-sharing platform, Meta has announced that all new videos uploaded on Facebook will soon be classified as Reels.
This change aims to simplify the content experience for users by unifying video formats under the Reels branding.
The update was officially confirmed by Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, on Tuesday.
According to the company, Reels will no longer have any length or format restrictions.
This means that users can upload short clips, long-form videos, or even livestreams — and all of them will be treated as Reels going forward.
New Video Tab and Unified Audience Settings
In addition to the format shift, Facebook’s current Video tab will be renamed as the Reels tab.
Videos uploaded prior to this transition will stay unchanged, but every video posted after the update will automatically fall under the Reels category.
To ensure user privacy, Meta stated that users will be prompted to confirm or update their audience settings.
This will especially apply to those who have different privacy preferences for feed posts and Reels.
The company says this move will offer more control and consistency for content creators and everyday users alike.
Global Rollout With Creative Tools
The new Reels framework will also bring enhanced creative tools to users, such as improved editing features, audio options, and effects.
Meta confirmed that the changes will be rolled out gradually across profiles and pages worldwide over the coming months.
The update reflects Meta’s continued push to position Reels as a central part of the Facebook video ecosystem, likely influenced by the success of short-form video content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
