Jury Begins Deliberations in Weinstein Retrial

ISLAMABAD: Jury deliberations have officially begun in the high-profile sex crimes retrial of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein in New York.
The proceedings mark another pivotal moment in the legal battle that became a cornerstone of the global #MeToo movement.
Weinstein, 73, faces two counts of criminal sex act and one count of rape, each linked to a different accuser and incident.
A seven-woman, five-man jury was handed the case on Thursday morning after a previously selected juror was excused due to illness and replaced by an alternate.
As deliberations began, jurors quickly requested a readback of key testimony from two of Weinstein’s accusers and also asked to review medical records belonging to one of the women.
A Case that Reshaped Hollywood
Weinstein, who has pleaded not guilty to all charges, has already been convicted in separate proceedings in both New York and California.
His retrial comes nearly eight years after explosive allegations first emerged, triggering an industry-wide reckoning on sexual harassment and abuse of power.
The current charges involve serious felony counts, with the criminal sex act charge classified as a higher-degree offense.
While the court has not disclosed the full identities of the accusers in this trial, the emotional testimonies provided by the women have been central to the prosecution’s case, emphasizing patterns of coercion and abuse.
Verdict to Shape Future of Accountability
As the jury deliberates, the world watches closely. A verdict in this case will likely reinforce or reshape the accountability established during the first wave of #MeToo convictions.
Weinstein’s retrial is not just about one man, but about whether systems of justice can deliver consequences for the powerful in the post-#MeToo era.
The court is expected to resume deliberations until a verdict is reached or a mistrial is declared. Legal experts suggest the jury’s handling of testimonial details and medical records may prove critical in determining the outcome.
