Russian Embassy Calls for Balanced Global News Representation

Islamabad – The Embassy of Russia in Pakistan has expressed strong concern over what it describes as a series of “anti-Russia” articles appearing in a Pakistani English-language publication. In a statement issued on its official Facebook page, the Embassy alleged that the publication’s international news selection is influenced by a Washington-based team, which it claimed prioritises opinions critical of Russia, its foreign policy and President Vladimir Putin.

According to the Embassy, the publication has recently failed to print a single article that presents Russia or its leadership in either a positive or neutral light. While acknowledging the principle of freedom of expression and the editorial right to feature diverse viewpoints, the Embassy argued that the absence of balance indicates a “coordinated campaign shaped by Western propaganda,” rather than an unbiased editorial policy.

The statement further criticised the publication for ignoring the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan held on 7 October 2025, despite the meeting receiving substantial coverage across Pakistan’s mainstream media. The Embassy said this editorial omission “reflects a Western-leaning bias” and a lack of interest in highlighting Pakistan’s position on regional affairs.

The Embassy accused the publication of repeating “stereotypical Western narratives” regarding Russia—such as claims of a weak economy, vulnerability to sanctions and Western military superiority. It alleged that the publication’s contributors distort facts to portray Russia as economically unstable, which, according to the Embassy, serves to justify new Western sanctions that “eventually harm the very states imposing them.”

Citing economic performance indicators, the statement said Russia achieved a 4.1% GDP growth in 2024, industrial growth reached 8.5%, unemployment stands at 2.5%, and 2025 inflation is projected at 6.5%–7%. It added that recent successful tests of the long-range Burevestnik cruise missile and the Poseidon unmanned submarine contradict claims of Western military superiority.

The Embassy urged Pakistani citizens to rely on “diverse and credible sources of information” rather than on platforms that “serve the interests of foreign sponsors.”
