PESHAWAR — The Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ), in collaboration with Peshawar General Hospital (PGH), organized a one-day cardiology screening camp at the Peshawar Press Club, offering free check-ups and screenings for journalists and their families.

A team led by Professor Dr. Javed Malik, Chief Executive of PGH, and Senior Cardiologist Dr. Momin Khan Afridi conducted detailed examinations. Free facilities including ECG, blood pressure, blood sugar testing, and clinical evaluations were provided. More than 150 journalists underwent ECGs, over 200 received blood sugar tests, and around 250 benefitted from clinical check-ups. Patients diagnosed with heart-related concerns received expert guidance and free medicines.

Doctors noted that journalists face a higher risk of heart disease due to long hours, stress, and irregular routines. They stressed that such medical camps help promote awareness and preventive care.

Following the conclusion of the camp, KUJ presented souvenirs to PGH Chief Executive Prof. Dr. Javed Malik and his medical team. The gesture acknowledged their support and services during the camp, which provided essential medical assistance to journalists and media workers.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Malik highlighted that around 1.5 million people in Pakistan suffer from heart diseases annually and emphasized the importance of early diagnosis, regular exercise, and healthier lifestyles.

KUJ President Kashif Uddin Syed and Peshawar Press Club President M. Riaz thanked the PGH administration and expressed hope for continued collaboration. Special appreciation was extended to PGH spokesperson Romaisa Ahmed and her team.
