Pakistan, Uzbekistan move to advance bilateral agreements into concrete investment projects

Islamabad: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to accelerate the implementation of agreements reached during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Pakistan, with a renewed focus on converting high-level political commitments into concrete investment, industrial and commercial projects.

The understanding was reached during a meeting with Adviser to the Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, where both sides reviewed progress on bilateral economic cooperation and discussed practical measures to advance agreed initiatives.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, attracting investment, strengthening industrial cooperation and improving transport and logistics connectivity between the two countries.

Particular emphasis was placed on developing joint ventures and investment projects in textiles, pharmaceuticals, food processing and other high-potential sectors where Pakistan and Uzbekistan see considerable scope for mutually beneficial cooperation.

A key outcome of the meeting was an agreement to establish direct working-level coordination between the relevant ministries, government institutions and private-sector companies of the two countries.

To facilitate implementation, a joint working group will be established to identify and advance specific projects, facilitate commercial agreements and coordinate follow-up measures between the two sides.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that understandings reached at the political level are translated into measurable economic outcomes, including increased investment flows, new production facilities, stronger business-to-business linkages and higher bilateral trade volumes.

Both sides underscored that the strong political trust between Pakistan and Uzbekistan provides a solid foundation for expanding economic engagement and creating new opportunities for businesses in both countries.

The latest engagement reflects Islamabad and Tashkent’s broader efforts to deepen their economic partnership by shifting the focus from agreements and declarations towards implementation, investment and commercially viable projects.
