PESHAWAR – A delegation of ambassadors and dignitaries from the European Union (EU) embarked on a rare cultural journey through the heart of Peshawar—one of South Asia’s oldest living cities—turning the visit into a celebration of heritage, hospitality, and cultural connections.
Welcomed amid the golden hues of autumn, the delegation was received by senior officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, who guided them through some of the city’s most treasured historical landmarks. The visit was part of ongoing cultural diplomacy efforts aimed at highlighting Peshawar’s centuries-old legacy as a historic crossroads of civilizations.
The tour began at the iconic Gor Khatri, a heritage site with archaeological layers dating back nearly 3,000 years. To honor the guests, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority presented handcrafted souvenirs, reflecting the warmth and generosity for which the region is known. The ambassadors expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gesture and admired the city’s rich cultural depth and timeless charm.
The delegation also visited the Peshawar Museum, where they were deeply impressed by its vast and diverse collection representing centuries of history, art, and cultural heritage. They praised the KP Government and museum teams for their exceptional work in preserving and conserving this shared heritage for future generations.
The ancient city of Peshawar—with its bustling bazaars, historic havelis, Gandhara legacy, and the lingering scent of history in its narrow alleys—extended a memorable welcome to the distinguished visitors, leaving them inspired by the city’s cultural spirit and historical significance.
