Uzbekistan to Set Up Logistics Warehouses at Karachi Port in Major Trade Boost
Uzbekistan and Pakistan have agreed to establish Uzbek logistics warehouses at the Port of Karachi, a step aimed at strengthening trade connectivity and streamlining cargo transit for Central Asia.
The decision was made during talks between an Uzbek delegation led by Mamanbiy Omarov and a Pakistani delegation headed by Umar Zafar Sheikh, held in the presence of Karachi Port Trust Chairman Shahid Ahmed, according to The Caspian Post citing Kazakh media.
Discussions centered on improving conditions for transporting Uzbek cargo through Pakistan’s ports, along with offering preferential terms to investors in logistics hubs and trade infrastructure. Officials noted the initiative is expected to cut transit times, reduce costs, and enhance supply chain reliability for Uzbek exporters and importers.
The talks are part of wider efforts to deepen transport cooperation between the two countries. Recently, Uzbekistan and Pakistan also agreed to launch a new transport corridor along the Pakistan–China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan route, creating a direct link between Central and South Asia.
Officials added that pilot shipments along the new corridor are planned for February, marking a practical step toward diversifying trade routes and boosting regional connectivity. The move aligns with Uzbekistan’s broader strategy to secure dependable access to seaports and expand its role in transregional logistics networks.
