Kazakh MPs Set to Review Border Protocol Amendments with Kyrgyzstan

Kazakhstan’s lower house of parliament, the Majilis, is scheduled to hold a plenary session on January 21 at 3:00 p.m. (GMT+5).
At the session, lawmakers will examine a draft law to ratify a protocol amending the 2003 agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on border checkpoints. They will also review protocols proposing changes to Articles 50(a) and 56 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, according to The Caspian Post citing Kazakh media.
The discussion follows a series of recent approvals by the Majilis, including the ratification of the Treaty on Deepening and Expanding Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, signed in Astana on April 19, 2024. The treaty aims to strengthen wide-ranging bilateral cooperation in political and military affairs, trade and investment, agriculture, transit and transport, water and energy resources, education, science and technology, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.
In addition, MPs are expected to advance a draft law on ratifying the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters. The Majilis has also recently approved an agreement setting unified rules for determining and confirming the origin of goods exported outside the Eurasian Economic Union, signed on December 4, 2023.
