Kyrgyzstan Tightens Plant Quarantine Controls along Kazakhstan Border

Kyrgyzstan has intensified phytosanitary oversight along its border with Kazakhstan following an unscheduled inspection of the Ak-Tilek and Kant phytosanitary control points by Maksat Kocherov, Director of the Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.
According to The Caspian Post, citing Kyrgyz media, the inspection focused on verifying compliance with plant quarantine regulations at key checkpoints managing cross-border cargo flows.
During the visit, officials were instructed to strictly enforce phytosanitary requirements and strengthen controls over the import and export of quarantineable products handled by participants in foreign economic activity.
The ministry reminded cargo carriers that violations of plant quarantine legislation would result in mandatory measures, including the return, destruction, or disinfection of agricultural products of plant origin. These actions are intended to prevent the spread of pests and diseases that could pose a threat to domestic agriculture.
Authorities further stressed that consignments failing to meet the phytosanitary standards of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), or those considered to present safety risks, will not be allowed to enter the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
