Traders to Launch Countrywide Strike on July 19 Against FBR Authority Expansion

Karachi: The country’s trading community has announced a nationwide strike on July 19 to protest the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) new powers under clauses 37(A) and 37(B). Javed Bulwani, a representative of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, criticized these regulations for giving authorities the ability to conduct unannounced raids, freeze accounts, and confiscate business records, which has sparked widespread concern among traders.

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has expressed strong support for the strike, urging the government to reconsider the enforcement approach and engage in meaningful dialogue for tax reforms. Traders demand immediate revision of the laws to rebuild trust and ensure a fair business environment.
