Trump Declares Middle East War ‘Over’, Set to Begin Talks with Iran

ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump has announced the beginning of talks with Iran next week, following a ceasefire that ended a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel. Speaking at the NATO summit in The Hague, Trump confidently declared, โ€œWe think itโ€™s over,โ€ regarding the regional hostilities.

Trump credited US military strikes for helping halt the war, likening the impact to โ€œHiroshima,โ€ claiming it โ€œended the war.โ€ He said both nations were exhausted from the violence and expressed hope that peace would prevail, although future flare-ups could not be ruled out.

Praise for Pakistan, Focus on Global Peace

During the summit, Trump praised Field Marshal Asim Munir, calling him โ€œan inspiring personality,โ€ and stated that the US had played a pivotal role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. He emphasized the need for both nations to prioritize trade over conflict, labeling them โ€œmajor nuclear powers.โ€

He also revealed plans to soon speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore options for ending the Ukraine war, stating, โ€œPutin really has to end that war.โ€ Trump reaffirmed US support for Ukraine, promising to consider sending more Patriot missile systems.

Summit Highlights and NATO Pressure

Trump touted โ€œtremendousโ€ outcomes from the NATO summit, most notably pushing allies to commit to a defense spending target of 5% of GDP. He warned Spain over its reluctance, threatening trade repercussions if commitments werenโ€™t met.

Trumpโ€™s remarks, comparisons to WWII, and defiance of intelligence reports have stirred debate, but he remains steadfast in framing recent US actions as global peace victories.
