Kyrgyz Cabinet Approves Longer New Year Break for State Workers

Kyrgyzstan has granted public sector employees additional time off for the New Year, with the Cabinet of Ministers approving an extension of the holiday period to include January 8 and 9, 2026.

The decision applies to employees of state and municipal institutions, organizations, and enterprises funded from the state budget, The Caspian Post reported, citing Kyrgyz media.

Authorities said the measure is intended to strengthen family values and give parents more time to spend with their children during the winter school holidays.

The resolution was adopted in accordance with Articles 13 and 17 of the Constitutional Law “On the Cabinet of Ministers.” Private-sector employers have been encouraged to consider a similar approach to support a healthier balance between work and family life.

The document was signed by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and will come into force on January 1, 2026. An earlier proposal by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Migration had suggested offsetting the additional days off by shifting working days to February 7 and April 25, 2026. However, this requirement was ultimately removed, meaning the extra holidays will not need to be compensated later.
