Cuban Envoy Meets Pakistan’s New DG Americas
Pakistan and Cuba Discuss Student Scholarships, Bilateral Relations in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: — The newly appointed Director General of the Americas Division, Batool Kazim, received Cuban Ambassador Damián Cordero Torres on Tuesday for a courtesy visit at the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.
The meeting was also attended by Syedah Marriyah Ali, Director for Canada and Latin America, and Deputy Director Aaliya Hassan.
During the exchange, Ambassador Cordero Torres extended his congratulations to Director General Kazim on her new assignment. He expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent multilateral support, particularly within the United Nations General Assembly, regarding Cuba’s calls to end the United States embargo.
The Ambassador briefed the Pakistani delegation on the current economic and energy challenges facing Cuba, attributing them to ongoing U.S. sanctions and executive policies. He also conveyed Cuba’s concerns regarding broader geopolitical pressures and rhetoric impacting the island nation.
Director General Kazim thanked the Ambassador for the briefing and accepted documentation detailing a recent address by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez to the UN General Assembly. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance, noting that its position reflects the long-standing bilateral relationship built on mutual respect and solidarity.
The meeting concluded with a briefing on the status and allocation process of educational scholarships provided to Pakistani students, following agreements established during previous rounds of bilateral political consultations.
