Turkmenistan Greenlights Major Upgrade of Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi Rail Link

Turkmenistan is set to bolster its transport and logistics infrastructure after President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the modernization of the Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi railway.

The proposal was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Mammethan Chakyev at a Cabinet meeting, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.

The rail line holds strategic importance, connecting several regions of the country with the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and acting as a vital link for integrating Turkmenistan’s national rail network into key international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, and the North–South and East–West routes.

President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the steady progress in developing the nation’s transport and logistics system and ongoing efforts to enhance Turkmenistan’s transit potential. He directed the deputy prime minister to move ahead with the modernization project, stressing its significance for regional connectivity and international trade.
