BISHKEK: President Asif Ali Zardari, during his official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, visited the Ata Beit Memorial Complex and held a key meeting with Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Mamataliev Marlen Abdyrakhmanovich, to discuss ways to further strengthen Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
The President visited the Ata Beit Memorial Complex in Chong-Tash, a historic site dedicated to Kyrgyz national figures and martyrs. He laid a wreath at the central monument and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during different phases of Kyrgyzstan’s history and struggle for independence.
President Zardari also visited the Ata Beit Memorial Museum, where he viewed historical artefacts highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s journey to sovereignty. He also paid respect at the memorial dedicated to renowned Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov, who is buried at the complex.
Earlier, President Zardari was seen off at Issyk-Kul Airport, Tamchy, by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov. Upon arrival at Manas International Airport in Bishkek, he was received by the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Altamash Wazir Khan.
Later, Speaker Mamataliev Marlen Abdyrakhmanovich called on President Zardari along with senior members of the Kyrgyz Parliament. During the meeting, both sides discussed parliamentary cooperation, trade expansion, connectivity, student pathways and people-to-people exchanges.
President Zardari said Pakistan attached great importance to its close and brotherly relations with Kyrgyzstan, rooted in shared faith, history, cultural links and mutual goodwill. He emphasized that strong parliamentary engagement could help ensure continuity and deeper cooperation in bilateral relations.
He also highlighted the active Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Friendship Group in Pakistan’s National Assembly and recalled that during President Sadyr Zhaparov’s visit to Islamabad in 2025, Pakistan’s parliamentary leadership had reaffirmed the importance of sustained engagement with Kyrgyzstan.
The President congratulated the Kyrgyz leadership on the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. Both sides also reviewed progress on land and air connectivity, bilateral trade, certification mechanisms and professional opportunities for students.
The Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker warmly welcomed President Zardari and appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding friendship with the Kyrgyz Republic.
Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Dr. Asim Hussain, Adviser to the President, and senior Pakistani officials also attended the meeting.
The meeting was followed by a dinner hosted by the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament in honour of President Zardari, attended by senior officials from both Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
