Pakistani Actress Sonya Hussyn Wins Best Supporting Actress at Eurasian “Diamond Butterfly” Film Awards in Moscow
Pakistani actress Sonya Hussyn has won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 1st Eurasian Open Film Awards “Diamond Butterfly”, held in Moscow on 27 November 2025. She received the honor for her powerful performance in the Pakistani film “Deemak.”
This year’s inaugural Diamond Butterfly Open Eurasian Film Awards featured 34 films from 17 countries, including two entries from Pakistan: Deemak and Love Guru.
The international cultural event was launched by the Russian Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Russian Cultural Foundation. Its mission is to highlight and promote cinematic works that reflect spiritual, moral, and cultural values shared across Eurasian societies, while strengthening the role of culture in shaping public consciousness.
Elena Golovnina, Director General of the Russian Cultural Foundation, emphasized the significance of the award, stating:
“Today, when some of world cinema promotes ideas far from traditional values, our award offers a timely alternative. True art should bring light and hope, unite people, and reinforce eternal moral values. These are the types of films we support through the Diamond Butterfly initiative.”
The festival will present awards in twelve categories, with winners receiving a diamond-encrusted butterfly statuette designed by renowned artist Yuri Cooper, along with cash prizes of up to one million dollars.
The Eurasian Academy of Cinematic Arts, which oversees the awards, was formally introduced in April 2025. Its membership includes representatives from the film industries of more than 20 countries, such as Pakistan, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Venezuela, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Cuba, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
