Drone Attack from Afghanistan Kills Three Chinese Workers in Tajikistanโs Khatlon Region

Tajikistan announced that three Chinese workers were killed on Wednesday night in a drone attack launched from Afghanistan. The strike hit a workersโ camp in the Khatlon region, according to the Tajik Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Authorities said an explosive-laden UAV was used in the attack. Tajikistan blamed criminal and terrorist groups operating inside Afghanistan, noting that cross-border threats persist despite its efforts to stabilize the frontier. The government called on Afghan authorities to strengthen security on their side of the border.
Chinese nationals are active in mining and construction projects across Tajikistan, and the porous Tajik-Afghan border has seen repeated flare-ups. Just a week earlier, Tajikistan said it used a drone to kill two Afghan drug smugglers, while in August Tajik border guards and Taliban fighters exchanged fire.
The incident occurred hours before a CSTO summit in Bishkek, where Tajikistan has repeatedly urged other members to provide greater support for securing its long southern border with Afghanistan.
