Islamabad: At the seventh edition of the Global Ambassador Awards, hosted by the Diplomatic Insight Group (DIG), the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan, Yerzhan Kistafin, was honored with the title of “Ambassador of the Year.”
Ambassador Kistafin received this distinction for his exceptional efforts in deepening cooperation and strengthening strategic ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan. His leadership has significantly advanced trade, economic collaboration, and regional connectivity, making him one of the most influential diplomats in Islamabad.
Under his tenure, trade and investment linkages between the two countries expanded, while cooperation in transport, logistics, and regional integration gained new momentum. Ambassador Kistafin played a key role in driving initiatives that support smoother transit routes and enhanced economic corridors linking Central and South Asia.
A major highlight of his diplomatic contribution has been the strengthening of academic cooperation, with more than 40 MoUs signed between universities in Kazakhstan and Pakistan—an unprecedented step in expanding educational linkages, research collaboration, and student exchange programs.
Cultural and media cooperation also grew, along with a vibrant wave of sports diplomacy, including active partnerships in football, golf, tennis, mountaineering, taekwondo, kabaddi, togyz kumalak, and qazaq kuresi. These initiatives have brought the people of both nations closer, fostering goodwill and long-term friendship.
A career diplomat with expertise in international relations, strategic studies, and law, Ambassador Kistafin previously served in senior roles at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and held significant diplomatic positions abroad, including his recent posting as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United States.
During his service in Pakistan, he has overseen high-level visits by Kazakhstan’s President, Prime Minister, Speaker of the Mazhilis, Deputy Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister, while facilitating regular political consultations and multilateral engagements.
He revitalized the Joint Intergovernmental Commission and the Kazakhstan–Pakistan Business Council, providing institutional support for economic cooperation. The 2025 Kazakhstan–Pakistan Business Forum in Karachi, held under his guidance, became the largest in the history of bilateral relations and generated more than USD 200 million in commercial contracts.
Ambassador Kistafin’s tenure has cemented a solid foundation for stronger bilateral relations, expanded cooperation in multiple sectors, and reinforced the long-term partnership between Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
