Turkmenistan Greenlights Major Upgrade of Ashgabatโ€“Turkmenbashi Rail Link

Turkmenistan is set to bolster its transport and logistics infrastructure after President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the modernization of the Ashgabatโ€“Turkmenbashi railway.

The proposal was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Mammethan Chakyev at a Cabinet meeting, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.

The rail line holds strategic importance, connecting several regions of the country with the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and acting as a vital link for integrating Turkmenistanโ€™s national rail network into key international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, and the Northโ€“South and Eastโ€“West routes.

President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the steady progress in developing the nationโ€™s transport and logistics system and ongoing efforts to enhance Turkmenistanโ€™s transit potential. He directed the deputy prime minister to move ahead with the modernization project, stressing its significance for regional connectivity and international trade.
