ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (APP):The Embassy of Bosnia-Herzegovina in collaboration with Iqra University Islamabad and media organization โPakistan in the Worldโ here on Wednesday celebrated the Statehood Day, with participation of student and youth.
At this occasion, famous movie โQuo Vadis Aidaโ and the message of President Dr. Denis Becirovic were screened for the students who participated in large number.
Ambassador H.E. Emin Cohodarevic graced the event with his presence and he was warmly received by the head of department Dr. Sheharyaar on arrival at the University premises along with Chief Executive of Media organization Mr. Tazeen Akhtar.
President Dr Denis Becirovic in his address to the nation and screened in the event, said, the membership of NATO and European Union are our strategic goals and โWe are indivisible part of Europe and our future is in NATO.โ
โOur homeland needs the statesmen who are ready to fight for the realisation of the vision of a European and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our children deserve a peaceful and secure future, President stressed.โ
He added, โThe statehood day reaffirms our commitment to human rights and civil liberties. The idea of ZAVNOBiH points to unity, peace and tolerance that is more relevant than ever before. We must never bow down to destructive forces.โ
Ambassador H.E. Emin Cohodarevic in his address, expressed gratitude to Iqra University for collaboration in holding this activity on the statehood day of his country.
He spoke highly about the young students and said,โ It is always a pleasure to speak to students because โI know I am speaking to Pakistanโs future scholars, leaders and entrepreneurs. Meeting such enthusiastic dedicated young people who will accomplish great things make me feel very optimistic about this countryโs future. And the potential I see in this room is as promising as the potential I see for Bosnia and Herzegovina โ Pakistan friendship in the future.โ
The Ambassador highlighted the history of Statehood to enlighten the students.
He shared, โBosnia and Herzegovinaโs Statehood Day is celebrated on November 25, commemorating the day that Bosniaโs statehood was restored by Anti-Fascist Council of National Liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 1943. On this day, the antifascist liberation movement passed the decision to restore the countryโs statehood within its historic borders.โ
โBosnia and Herzegovina once again confirmed its multicultural and multi-ethnic history and reaffirmed that its citizens would be entitled to equal rights. Today, we honor Bosnia Herzegovinaโs statehood and its multi-ethnic and multi-confessional history and we celebrate the countryโs vibrant culture and institutions, Ambassador noted.
On bilateral relations, Ambassador said, โThe multifaceted relations between our two countries have witnessed a steady growth during last thirty years characterized by friendship, mutual respect and understanding. If you have a friend a far who knows your heart, distance can not keep you apart. Now 3000 miles can no longer keep Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan apart. Instead, the relationship serves as a bond or a bridge linking our two countries.โ
He shortly narrated the real story of Aida on who the movie has been produced. He said, โIt is not coincidence that we chose this moment to screen the film โQuo vadis Aida?โ, as we mark the Statehood day of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Quo Vadis, Aida? is a drama about a UN translator, Aida, in Srebrenica, a town in Bosnia, who tries to save her family from the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995, highlighting the failure of the UN peacekeepers and Aidaโs desperate fight for survival.โ
The students took keen interest in the history and status of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
