Bulgaria Ramps up Azerbaijani Gas Imports by over 20% in early 2025

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4 — Bulgaria has sharply increased its natural gas imports from Azerbaijan, purchasing 1.23 billion cubic meters valued at $457.9 million between January and August 2025.

According to data from Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee cited by Trend, this marks a 21.4 percent—or $80.7 million—jump in value and a 2.4 percent rise in volume compared to the same period in 2024.

By comparison, Bulgaria imported 1.2 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas worth $377.2 million in the first eight months of last year.

Overall, Azerbaijan exported 16.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas abroad during the same period this year, generating $6 billion in revenue. This represents a 9.9 percent, or $541.2 million, increase in export value and a 3.9 percent, or 625.9 million cubic meter, rise in volume year-on-year.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s gas imports fell sharply to 233.3 million cubic meters worth $36.3 million — down by 2.1 times in value and nearly half in volume compared to the same period last year.
