Operation Sindoor: A Strategic Setback for India, Says Pakistan Army Chief

Islamabad, July 7, 2025 โ€“ Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), delivered a firm and unambiguous message during his address at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, where he termed Indiaโ€™s recent military endeavor, Operation Sindoor, a strategic failure rooted in miscalculation and misplaced confidence.

Speaking to graduating officers of the National Security and War Course, Field Marshal Munir said the operation not only fell short of its declared objectives but also revealed serious lapses in Indiaโ€™s operational preparedness and strategic thinking.

โ€œWhat transpired during Operation Sindoor was more than a tactical defeatโ€”it exposed a fundamental breakdown in strategic assumptions.โ€

He rejected as misleading and irresponsible the claims that Pakistanโ€™s decisive responseโ€”Operation Bunyanum Marsoosโ€”was carried out with foreign backing, asserting instead that the operation was planned, executed, and led by Pakistanโ€™s own professional forces, honed through years of experience and national resolve.

The COAS criticized New Delhiโ€™s repeated efforts to invoke external actors or global narratives in what he called a strictly bilateral military confrontation, warning that such behavior undermines regional stability and reflects Indiaโ€™s increasing reliance on strategic theatrics over substance.

โ€œWe are a sovereign state , Any aggressionโ€”whether overt or covertโ€”will be answered with full force and absolute clarity,โ€ he warned.
โ€œPakistanโ€™s posture is not reactive; it is principled, deliberate, and rooted in strategic depth.โ€

He went on to describe Pakistan as a responsible regional actor, committed to peace and constructive diplomacy, but fully prepared to defend its sovereignty without hesitation.

Touching upon the broader character of modern conflict, Field Marshal Munir reminded the audience that warfare today demands institutional strength, operational clarity, and enduring national willโ€”not headline-making or high-tech purchases.

He concluded his address by expressing full confidence in the operational readiness and professional excellence of Pakistanโ€™s Armed Forces, urging the graduating officers to embody integrity, humility, and a clear sense of purpose as they assume greater responsibilities in national defence.

The COAS was received at NDU with full ceremonial honors by the universityโ€™s president.
