Controversy Sparks Over Eid Animal Sacrifice Remarks

ISLAMABAD: A recent statement by Indian politician Dr. Raj Kamal Gupta has ignited controversy surrounding the traditional animal sacrifice performed during Eid ul Adha.

Gupta, a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), called for a ban on animal sacrifices and urged the Indian government to take strict action against those who practice it.

His remarks have sparked widespread backlash from religious scholars and community leaders who defend the practice as an essential religious ritual.

Religious Significance of Animal Sacrifice

Eid ul Adha commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of faith. The ritual sacrifice of animals is deeply embedded in Islamic tradition and is considered an obligatory practice during the festival.

Islamic scholars, including Mufti Danish Qadri, Vice President of the Central Jamiat Ahl-e-Sunnat Moradabad, emphasize that the method of slaughter used follows strict guidelines to ensure the animal is treated with mercy and pain is minimized.

Mufti Qadri also questioned why objections to animal sacrifice arise only during Eid ul Adha, when non-vegetarian meals are common in various religious and cultural contexts throughout the year.

He condemned Gupta’s comments as politically motivated and urged the Muslim community to disregard inflammatory remarks.

Constitutional Rights and Communal Harmony

Religious leaders have highlighted that the Indian Constitution guarantees freedom of religious practice, allowing communities to observe their traditions without interference.

They stressed that Muslims respect Hindu ceremonies and expect the same respect in return.

This recent controversy has reignited important discussions on religious tolerance and the negative impact of politicizing faith-based practices in India.

As the debate continues, many voices call for promoting communal harmony and discouraging statements that could deepen divisions among religious communities.
