ISLAMABAD โ€” A high-level Russian delegation led by Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev visited the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday as part of the 10th meeting of the Russiaโ€“Pakistan Intergovernmental Commission. The delegation met NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik to discuss ongoing cooperation in disaster management and emergency preparedness.

Officials from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situationsโ€”some of whom took part in the rescue operations following Pakistanโ€™s devastating April 8, 2005 earthquakeโ€”were also in attendance. In a rare and emotional moment, eyewitnesses of the 2005 disaster were invited to personally thank the Russian rescuers for their role in the relief efforts.
